If you’re a fan of “A Certain Scientific Railgun,” get ready to charge up your excitement! At the Dengeki Bunko New Year Super Appreciation Winter Festival Online 2025, it was officially announced that the beloved anime series is getting a fourth season. Yes, you heard that right—Mikoto Misaka and the gang are coming back for more electrifying adventures!
One of the best parts of this announcement? The original creative team is back on board! Tatsuyuki Nagai, known for his work on Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, will once again be directing, ensuring that the series retains its signature style and energy. The animation will be handled by J.C.Staff, a studio that has consistently delivered high-quality visuals for the franchise.
And of course, Kiyotaka Haimura’s distinctive character designs will continue to bring our favorite Academy City residents to life. Speaking of favorites, the original voice cast is also returning! Expect to hear:
Rina Satou as the ever-powerful Mikoto Misaka
Satomi Arai as the quirky yet fierce Kuroko Shirai
Aki Toyosaki as the tech-savvy Kazari Uiharu
Kanae Itou as the lively and curious Ruiko Saten
With this lineup, we can be sure that the fourth season will stay true to what made Railgun so great in the first place.
For those new to the series (or those who need a refresher), A Certain Scientific Railgun is a spin-off of Kazuma Kamachi’s A Certain Magical Index but has long since built its own massive fanbase. The first season aired way back in Fall 2009, followed by a second in Spring 2013, and the highly successful third season, Railgun T, which dropped in Winter 2020 with 25 action-packed episodes.
The anime is adapted from Motoi Fuyukawa’s manga, which has been running in Dengeki Daioh since 2007. With 19 volumes already published, it’s clear that the series isn’t slowing down anytime soon. English readers can also keep up, thanks to Seven Seas Entertainment, which has been releasing the manga since 2010.
If you’re planning to catch up (or rewatch), here’s where you can find Railgun:The first season was released on DVD by Funimation in 2013, later making its way to Blu-ray in 2015.The second season arrived on Blu-ray in 2016.The third season was released on Blu-ray and DVD in 2021, with Crunchyroll set to release a new Blu-ray edition on April 8.
With the fourth season on the horizon, this is the perfect time to revisit Academy City!
So, what can we expect from the upcoming season? While details about the story remain under wraps, fans are already speculating about what arcs from the manga might be adapted. Given how Railgun T raised the stakes with the Daihaseisai Arc and Dream Ranker Arc, there’s no doubt that the next season will deliver even more high-stakes action, mystery, and unforgettable moments. With the original team returning and Railgun’s history of strong storytelling, it’s safe to say that Season 4 is going to be an absolute must-watch. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering the series, now’s the perfect time to jump into the world of Academy City.
